Cellular therapy is an innovative treatment that’s helping a growing number of patients. At City of Hope® Cancer Center Chicago, our Cellular Therapy Program offers leading options—including chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy and tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) therapy—for qualifying patients in the Midwest.
At our Chicago Cellular Therapy Program, you’ll find experts with deep experience using CAR T-cell and TIL therapies to treat chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and multiple myeloma. Collecting your cells and re-infusing them happens all under one roof —so your care is seamless. We also offer clinical trials, giving patients access to the newest CAR T-cell therapy options.
While CAR T-cell therapy and TIL therapy have brought new hope to many patients, they also have the potential to cause serious side effects. That’s why our care team monitors patients closely throughout treatment and is ready to treat side effects that may arise.
CAR T-cell therapy, or chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy, is a leading-edge treatment that uses your own immune system to fight cancer. Your T-cells are collected, reprogrammed in the lab to recognize cancer cells, then returned to your body to attack the disease.
At City of Hope Chicago, we understand that specialized care matters. That’s why you can count on a care team with extensive experience in CAR T-cell therapy for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and multiple myeloma. Every step of your care is performed onsite for your safety, comfort and convenience.
Tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) therapy is an emerging treatment that uses your body’s own immune cells to fight disease. TILs are a special kind of white blood cell found inside tumors. During treatment, these cells are collected through surgery, multiplied and “supercharged” in the lab, then returned to your body to help attack the cancer.
Before your TILs are given back, you’ll receive a short course of chemotherapy to prepare your immune system so the treatment can work more effectively.
TIL therapy, currently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for certain patients with advanced melanoma, is showing promise as an option earlier in treatment.
As a patient at City of Hope Chicago, you benefit from a highly specialized team that may include medical oncologists, surgical oncologists and experts in cellular therapy, hematology, transplant and immunotherapy. You’ll also be supported by specially trained oncology nurses and care coordinators who guide you through each step of the TIL therapy journey.
When it comes to cellular therapy in the Midwest, you’ll find expertise, innovation and compassionate care—all close to home at our comprehensive cancer center in Lake County, Illinois.
