Colorectal cancer care

DISCOVER OUR DIFFERENCE IN PERSONALIZED CANCER TREATMENT

At City of Hope, we understand that the earlier colorectal cancer is detected, the better the chances for a positive outcome.
We also understand that no two cancer patients, and no two cancers, are exactly alike. That’s why your multidisciplinary care team will work with you to develop a personalized plan to treat your colorectal cancer in a way that fits your individual needs and goals. We put patients at the center of their care so they can make informed decisions about the journey ahead. With our patient-centered approach, we treat each patient as we’d want our own family members to be treated.

How are we different?

GI cancer focus

Colorectal cancer is an important focus at City of Hope. That’s why our hospitals in Atlanta, Chicago and Phoenix have a GI Cancer Center dedicated to treating patients with all stages of gastrointestinal disease, no matter its stage. Our gastroenterologists and oncologists understand that colorectal cancer is complex. Because they treat colorectal cancer every day, they have the experience to help you choose a treatment plan tailored to your needs. They combine state-of-the-art technologies with non-surgical techniques, such as endoscopic mucosal resection, to remove abnormal tissue. And they use a wide range of tools, such as radiofrequency ablation and endoscopic ultrasound with fine needle biopsy, to treat your colorectal cancer.

Comprehensive team approach

Your colorectal cancer care team works all under one roof. That means you have access to state-of-the-art cancer treatments and supportive care therapies all in one place. Your team is led by a gastroenterologist, and your treatment plan is coordinated by a care manager dedicated to orchestrating your schedule, communicating with the rest of your care team, getting your questions answered and helping you access your test results in a timely manner. Your care team may also include a surgical and/or radiation oncologist, an interventional pathologist, oncology nurses and a variety of supportive care clinicians.

Whole-person care

Our doctors work with supportive care providers to deliver evidence-informed therapies designed to address the symptoms of your disease and the side effects of treatment. That’s what integrative care is all about: keeping you strong so you can better tolerate your treatments and maintain a good quality of life. Our supportive care services include nutritional and naturopathic support to help develop a diet plan and offer supplements to help you stay nourished, while pain management physicians offer medication and non-medicinal approaches to help you keep your pain in check. And our spiritual support and behavioral health providers help support your mental and emotional health before, during and after your treatment.

"We put the patient at the center of everything we do. It’s our constant focus. And it motivates us to not only fight the cancer, but also maintain the patient’s quality of life."

Access to clinical trials

Clinical trials are critical tools researchers and doctors use to determine the safety and effectiveness of new drugs and therapies. At City of Hope, we are committed to offering our patients innovative and new cancer treatments, including access to clinical trials when appropriate. These trials may provide therapies that are not yet widely available to qualified patients who have exhausted conventional treatment options or whose cancer is advanced or difficult to treat. Our cancer doctors and researchers will work with you to determine if you qualify for a trial and help you find one that’s right for you.
