Why travel to Western?

greg hoffman

Sixty-five percent of our patients travel to Western from outside Arizona for their cancer care. Why? When they are here, they’re not battling traffic to and from appointments, and they can meet with experts from multiple disciplines. We understand traveling for cancer treatment may seem overwhelming, but our experience in handling the details can help getting to Western as stress-free and affordable as possible.

Clinical trials

Western is committed to bringing our patients new and innovative cancer treatment options. One way we do that is through our clinical research program. Our clinical trials explore new treatment options that may lead to tomorrow’s medicine and offer patients treatments that may not otherwise be available to them.

These studies are an essential testing ground for measuring the effectiveness of drugs and other treatments before they can be granted FDA approval.

Patient participation also provides researchers with important data to test the trials’ hypothesis, such as whether new immunotherapy drugs are safe and effective when used with chemotherapy. Your care team will work with you to determine if you are a candidate for one of our ongoing clinical trials and, if so, our clinicians will help you enroll.

The TAPUR study

The Targeted Agent and Profiling Utilization Registry (TAPUR) study is a clinical trial that aims to improve our understanding of how commercially available anti-cancer drugs perform on a broader range of cancers, by matching the drugs to tumors with specific genomic mutations that the drugs are designed to target. CTCA enrolls qualified patients at all five of our hospitals.
