“The dedication here not only to cancer medicine but also to quality cancer care is a rare gift,” says Dr. Marnee Spierer, a radiation oncologist and Chief of Staff and Chief of Radiation Oncology at Cancer Treatment Centers of America ® (CTCA), Phoenix. “I wanted to be part of the effort.”

Dr. Spierer completed a bachelor’s degree at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1991 and a master’s degree at Teachers College of Columbia University in New York City in 1994. Deciding to pursue a career in medicine, Dr. Spierer attended the post-baccalaureate premedical program at Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. She earned a medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians Surgeons in 2000.

After completing a general residency at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in New Jersey, Dr. Spierer completed a radiation oncology residency at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.

Dr. Spierer served as a residency training program director, assistant professor and radiation oncologist at a medical center in the Bronx, New York. Additionally, she was a partner in a private radiation oncology practice in New York City. She joined CTCA® in April 2014.

Dr. Spierer is board certified in radiation oncology by the American Board of Radiology. She is a member of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology and the American Board of Radiology. Over the years, Dr. Spierer has received several awards. She also serves as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Interdisciplinary Oncology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Phoenix. 

A dedicated researcher, Dr. Spierer has presented study findings at numerous local and national clinical meetings. Her investigations have focused on post-mastectomy radiation, soft tissue sarcoma, women’s oncology and radiation for childhood sarcoma, among other areas. She has served as a principal investigator and co-principal investigator for clinical trials and has published research in prominent, peer-reviewed medical journals. She has also contributed chapters to several radiation oncology books. Over the years, she's been recognized many times as one of Castle Connolly's Top Doctors®, most recently in 2021.

Dr. Spierer was drawn to the environment at CTCA. “Cancer treatment can be difficult,” she says, “but the care teams at CTCA attempt to make it as pleasant as possible.”

Dr. Spierer credits the support of her family for playing an integral part in the care she provides to her patients every day.

Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
