Research
William Tseng, M.D., is a surgical oncologist and associate clinical professor at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte. Dr. Tseng brings deep experience to his work treating adults with soft tissue sarcoma affecting the abdomen, torso and extremities. Known for his collaborative and compassionate approach to surgery, Dr. Tseng focuses on educating patients about their treatment options, while focusing on achieving the best possible outcomes. He prioritizes each patient’s safety and quality of life, balancing this with an assertive approach to treatment founded on his surgical expertise.
Dr. Tseng received his medical degree from Northwestern University in Chicago, which was followed by surgical training at the University of California, San Francisco, and a fellowship in surgical oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Before joining City of Hope, Dr. Tseng was an associate professor of Surgery at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where he led their Retroperitoneal Sarcoma Surgery Program.
A leader in sarcoma research, Dr. Tseng has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed papers. He is an expert in liposarcoma, a rare cancer that forms in fat cells—and he works closely with collaborators at the renowned Sarcoma Unit at at the Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori in Milan and with the Transatlantic Australasian Retroperitoneal Sarcoma Working Group.
Outside the hospital, Dr. Tseng enjoys traveling, modern art, cinema and martial arts. He collects vintage 1980s toys and likes to spend time with his family. He is fluent in Mandarin and Taiwanese.
