Lung cancer care

DISCOVER OUR DIFFERENCE IN PERSONALIZED CANCER TREATMENT

Lung cancer is a serious disease that requires expert care, especially since it’s typically not diagnosed until it’s reached an advanced stage, when symptoms typically arise.
That’s why it’s important to rely on experts who are trained and experienced in diagnosing and treating all types and stages of lung cancer. At City of Hope, our multidisciplinary team of lung cancer experts works with you to help you understand the complexities of the disease and the treatment options available to you. You’ll share in the decision-making process with your care team, and together, you’ll come up with a treatment plan personalized to your individual needs and goals. This patient-centered approach means we treat you the same way we would treat a member of our own family.

Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) is now City of Hope®, joining forces to expand patient access to personalized, comprehensive cancer care.

How are we different?

Lung cancer focus

At the Lung Cancer Centers at each of our hospitals, our singular focus is on diagnosing and treating the disease. We offer a wide range of diagnostic tools and treatments, including immunotherapy and advanced genomic testing. Our medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and other experts stay up to date on new and emerging treatments and technologies. That expertise helps shape treatment planning and lets you make informed decisions—and make adjustments in real time. Because they treat lung cancer every day, your care team understands that no one treatment is one-size-fits-all. They also have experience treating all types of lung cancer, including less-common subtypes such as sarcomatoid carcinoma and adenosquamous carcinoma.

Comprehensive team approach

Our Lung Cancer Center care teams work all under one roof. That means you have access to state-of-the-art cancer treatments and supportive care therapies all in one place. Your team is led by a medical oncologist, and your treatment plan is coordinated by a care manager dedicated to orchestrating your schedule, communication with the rest of your care team, getting your questions answered and helping you access your test results in a timely manner. Your care team may also include a lung cancer pathologist, a surgical and/or radiation oncologist, an interventional pulmonologist, oncology nurses and a variety of supportive care clinicians.

Whole-person care

Our doctors work with supportive care providers to deliver evidence-informed therapies designed to address the symptoms of your disease and the side effects of treatments. That’s what integrative care is all about: keeping you strong so you can better tolerate your treatments and maintain a good quality of life. Our supportive care services include nutritional and naturopathic support to help develop a diet plan and offer supplements to help stay nourished, while pain management physicians offer medication and non-medicinal approaches to help you keep your pain in check. And our spiritual support and behavioral health providers help support your mental and emotional health before, during and after your treatment.

“I came here because of the patient-centered approach to care, provided under one roof and approached as a team. I also value the incorporation of integrative modalities to help combat side effects.”

Access to clinical trials

Clinical trials are critical tools researchers and doctors use to determine the safety and effectiveness of new drugs and therapies. At City of Hope, we are committed to offering our patients innovative and new cancer treatments, including access to clinical trials when appropriate. These trials may provide therapies that are not yet widely available to qualified patients who have exhausted conventional treatment options or whose cancer is advanced or difficult to treat. Our cancer doctors and researchers will work with you to determine if you qualify for a trial and help you find one that’s right for you.
