Radiation oncologist Yufei Liu, M.D., Ph.D., became a physician because he wanted to ease patients’ suffering during some of the most difficult moments of their lives and turn scientific discoveries into better cancer care. He knows that no two patients are the same and works closely with each person at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte to create a treatment plan that fits their individual needs and goals.
Dr. Liu specializes in advanced, highly precise radiation treatments designed to target tumors while protecting healthy tissue. These include intensity-modulated radiation therapy, stereotactic body radiation therapy and stereotactic radiosurgery. He also uses advanced imaging and biological markers to improve treatment accuracy and reduce side effects.
As a physician-scientist, Dr. Liu leads research focused on precision medicine, studying cancer at the molecular level to make treatments more effective. His work also aims to lessen radiation side effects and improve how radiation therapy works alongside immunotherapy. Since joining City of Hope in 2023, Dr. Liu has published more than 20 scientific papers in leading medical journals and has received national recognition for his research during his training and professional career, including from the American Society for Radiation Oncology.
Outside of work, Dr. Liu enjoys hiking and exploring California’s natural beauty, as well as reading, traveling, playing the piano and stargazing.
