About Me

Wesley Yip, M.D., chose to pursue a career in the field of urology because it offers a unique mix of medical and surgical care and allows him to directly benefit patients' quality of life. As a urologist at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte, Dr. Yip helps diagnose and treat cancers of the kidney, bladder, upper urinary tract, prostate, testicles, adrenal glands and penis. He is committed to delivering compassionate, individualized care, with a focus on open communication with each and every patient.

A Los Angeles native, Dr. Yip has deep roots in the community. His connection to City of Hope began during college, when he participated in a summer research program in the lab of Steven Smith, Ph.D., and gained early clinical exposure in the operating rooms of Clayton Lau, M.D., and Timothy Wilson, M.D. His current research centers on improving clinical trial methods, exploring urinary biomarkers and studying cancer genomics.

Dr. Yip earned his medical degree and completed his urology residency at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, followed by a prestigious Society of Urologic Oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He has more than 30 peer-reviewed publications, among them a landmark study in the Journal of Clinical Oncology that helped define neoadjuvant chemotherapy as the standard of care for high-risk upper tract urothelial carcinoma.

Patient reviews
The patient ratings and comments on this page are obtained from an external Press Ganey® outpatient survey provided to all eligible City of Hope patients within one to two weeks of their treatment occurrence. Raw data from the answers to the survey questions about our physicians are calculated by Press Ganey into a one- to five- star rating. In the spirit of transparency, all patient comments are posted as written by the patient, whether they are positive or negative. We only exclude comments if they are deemed to be slanderous or libelous, contain profanity or vulgar language, or do not relate to the patient's experience with the doctor involved. As a result, the comments are the views and opinions of the patients surveyed and are not endorsed by, and may not necessarily reflect the opinion of, City of Hope.
