Wai K. Park, DO, chose to become a physician because of her deep desire to promote health, offer support and guide patients and their families through challenging times. As a clinical geneticist at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte, Alongside her deep expertise in genetics and cancer prevention, Dr. Park also has a dedication to patient care: her medical journey began as a registered nurse, a role in which she spent 10 years caring for patients in a wide variety of clinical settings.
Inspired to take her medical knowledge further, Dr. Park earned a science degree from California State University, Los Angeles, followed by her medical degree at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California. She then completed her residency at Kaiser Permanente in Fontana and went on to specialize in clinical genetics and genomics through training at the University of California, Irvine.
Dr. Park believes that genetics is a powerful tool in the fight against cancer and that, by understanding the genetic changes that make someone more likely to develop certain cancers, we can offer early screening, reduce risk and tailor treatments to each individual patient.
Fluent in both English and Burmese, Dr. Park was inspired to join City of Hope after a loved one received care there.
