Wade Michael Smith, M.D., is a medical oncologist and hematologist at City of Hope® Newport Beach, where he provides expert cancer care for a wide range of cancer types and serves as the location’s director of research. Dr. Smith brings years of training and experience to his role, and a philosophy founded on personalized, compassionate care.
Dr. Smith earned his undergraduate degree in biology at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. He went on to receive his medical degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, then completed both his residency and fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. He later returned to Southern California to continue his work helping patients through their cancer journey.
While Dr. Smith treats a variety of cancers, he has a focus on treating breast cancer. His lifelong interest in biology has also led him to explore new treatments for cancers that do not respond well to conventional chemotherapy, and he is especially excited about helping bring these promising therapies from the lab into the clinic.
Dr. Smith values how City of Hope has grown its presence in communities across Southern California while staying true to its mission of providing top-quality, patient-centered cancer care close to home.
