About Me

Vijay Trisal, M.D., is the Dr. Norman & Melinda Payson Professor of Medicine at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte and also serves as chief clinical officer for the entire City of Hope network. In this leadership role, Dr. Trisal helps shape the institution’s vision, which is founded on providing safe, effective and innovative clinical care for patients at every City of Hope location and developing guidelines for clinical pathways and protocols. A collaborative leader, Dr. Trisal believes in a physician-led approach to clinical excellences, working closely with other senior City of Hope leaders on a regular basis.

As a surgical oncologist, Dr. Trisal specializes in treating melanoma and sarcoma, two rare but serious types of cancer. He has played a key role in introducing into the clinic a range of leading-edge treatments, including immunotherapies, that give patients new hope. Deeply committed to personalized care, he believes that medical decisions should always take into account the unique needs, values and goals of each individual patient.

Dr. Trisal has also helped guide City of Hope’s expansion, working to ensure that patients can receive expert care from the right specialists as close to home as possible. He led the development of ConnectHope, a comprehensive health record system that helps connect patients and care teams more efficiently across the network.

Originally from Kashmir, India, Dr. Trisal completed his residency at the Providence Hospital and Medical Centers in Southfield, Michigan.

Patient reviews
The patient ratings and comments on this page are obtained from an external Press Ganey® outpatient survey provided to all eligible City of Hope patients within one to two weeks of their treatment occurrence. Raw data from the answers to the survey questions about our physicians are calculated by Press Ganey into a one- to five- star rating. In the spirit of transparency, all patient comments are posted as written by the patient, whether they are positive or negative. We only exclude comments if they are deemed to be slanderous or libelous, contain profanity or vulgar language, or do not relate to the patient's experience with the doctor involved. As a result, the comments are the views and opinions of the patients surveyed and are not endorsed by, and may not necessarily reflect the opinion of, City of Hope.
