Vijay Trisal, M.D., is the Dr. Norman & Melinda Payson Professor of Medicine at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte and also serves as chief clinical officer for the entire City of Hope network. In this leadership role, Dr. Trisal helps shape the institution’s vision, which is founded on providing safe, effective and innovative clinical care for patients at every City of Hope location and developing guidelines for clinical pathways and protocols. A collaborative leader, Dr. Trisal believes in a physician-led approach to clinical excellences, working closely with other senior City of Hope leaders on a regular basis.
As a surgical oncologist, Dr. Trisal specializes in treating melanoma and sarcoma, two rare but serious types of cancer. He has played a key role in introducing into the clinic a range of leading-edge treatments, including immunotherapies, that give patients new hope. Deeply committed to personalized care, he believes that medical decisions should always take into account the unique needs, values and goals of each individual patient.
Dr. Trisal has also helped guide City of Hope’s expansion, working to ensure that patients can receive expert care from the right specialists as close to home as possible. He led the development of ConnectHope, a comprehensive health record system that helps connect patients and care teams more efficiently across the network.
Originally from Kashmir, India, Dr. Trisal completed his residency at the Providence Hospital and Medical Centers in Southfield, Michigan.
