Victoria Seewaldt, M.D., is the Ruth Ziegler Chair in Population Sciences and a professor in the Department of Population Sciences at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte.
A respected physician-scientist, Dr. Seewaldt is committed to advancing patient care and improving community health through a combination of prevention, education and research. Her work has focused on identifying early indicators of cancer, in particular, triple-negative breast cancer—which is notoriously hard to treat—and promoting wellness as a strategy for cancer prevention.
At City of Hope, Dr. Seewaldt leads initiatives that deliver breast cancer education, free screenings and care, mentorship opportunities for underrepresented minority students and support for community-based clinical research. In her clinical practice, she works closely with women at elevated risk for breast cancer, helping them develop proactive, personalized strategies to improve their long-term health and wellbeing.
Dr. Seewaldt earned her medical degree from the University of California, Davis, and completed her residency and clinical fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle. She went on to complete a medical oncology fellowship at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Prior to joining City of Hope, Dr. Seewaldt’s academic career spanned roles at The Ohio State University and, later, Duke University, where she was co-director of the Breast and Ovarian Cancer Research Program and served as director of the Breast Cancer Prevention Initiative.
