About Me

Timothy Kiong, M.D., is a psychiatrist who specializes in consultation-liaison psychiatry — a field that brings together mental health and medical care. He believes it’s important to support both the emotional and physical needs of patients, helping them navigate challenging times and work toward being their best selves.

Before joining the supportive care team at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte in 2023, Dr. Kiong practiced at Kern Medical in Bakersfield, California, from 2020 to 2023. There, he served as associate program director of the UCLA-Kern Psychiatry Residency Program and co-site director for the UCLA Psychiatry Clerkship Program. In these roles, he cared for patients while also training the next generation of psychiatrists.

During his residency at the University of Hawaii and later at Kern Medical, Dr. Kiong contributed to several projects aimed at improving patient care. He also helped launch specialty clinics that provide advanced treatments for treatment-resistant depression, including transcranial magnetic stimulation and electroconvulsive therapy.

Patient reviews
The patient ratings and comments on this page are obtained from an external Press Ganey® outpatient survey provided to all eligible City of Hope patients within one to two weeks of their treatment occurrence. Raw data from the answers to the survey questions about our physicians are calculated by Press Ganey into a one- to five- star rating. In the spirit of transparency, all patient comments are posted as written by the patient, whether they are positive or negative. We only exclude comments if they are deemed to be slanderous or libelous, contain profanity or vulgar language, or do not relate to the patient's experience with the doctor involved. As a result, the comments are the views and opinions of the patients surveyed and are not endorsed by, and may not necessarily reflect the opinion of, City of Hope.
