About Me

Thinzar Min Lwin, M.D., M.S., is a surgical oncologist at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte, where she specializes in treating cancers that have spread within the abdomen. 

Dr. Lwin, who is deeply committed to helping people with cancer live longer, healthier lives, is an expert in a wide range of complex surgeries including advanced treatments performed directly within the abdominal area and minimally invasive robotic surgery for gastrointestinal cancers. Her mission is to bring hope through expert care, while treating patients with warmth, respect and compassion. Dr. Lwin takes the time to listen closely to each patient and their loved ones so she can understand what matters most to them and help them feel confident and informed in their care decisions. 

Trained at Harvard, Dr. Lwin is a respected member of several national and international medical organizations, including the Society for Surgical Oncology, the Association of Women Surgeons, and the International Society for Fluorescence Guided Surgery, where she also serves on the advisory board. Raised in Arcadia, California – near City of Hope’s Los Angeles campus – Dr. Lwin is also an active researcher. She has written more than 50 scientific papers, with her work focusing on new ways to help surgeons see and treat cancer more precisely, using techniques like fluorescence-guided surgery and theranostics to improve outcomes.
