Dr. Syed Haider, Medical Oncologist and Stem Cell Transplant Physician at Cancer Treatment Centers of America ® (CTCA), Chicago, decided to be a doctor in his early teens. After his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, he knew he wanted to specialize in oncology.

Originally from Pakistan, Dr. Haider completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at Dow University of Health Sciences in Karachi, Pakistan. He came to the United States in 1994, completing Residency in Internal Medicine at Oakwood Hospital and Medical Center in Dearborn, Michigan. He received special training in hemophilia and coagulation disorders at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, and was a Fellow in Hematology/Oncology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center from 2010 to 2013. He then completed a one-year Fellowship in Malignant Hematology and Stem Cell Transplantation at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

From 1998 to 2007, Dr. Haider ran a private practice focused on internal medicine in North Carolina. From 2007 to 2010, he was Attending Physician at the Memphis Hemophilia Treatment Center at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, where he also served as Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine. In 2014, he became Assistant Professor at the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center.  

Dr. Haider joined CTCA® in October 2015. His areas of expertise include medical oncology care, benign and malignant hematology and stem cell transplantation. He was drawn to the Patient-Centered Care approach taken at CTCA. “I believe patients should be active participants in the decision-making process,” says Dr. Haider. 

Outside of CTCA, Dr. Haider enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, hiking, exploring the outdoors, traveling, listening to classical music, and learning about history.
