Sunita Patel, PhD, is a neuropsychologist and a professor in the departments of population sciences and supportive care medicine at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte.
Dr. Patel’s research centers on understanding the factors that contribute to—or protect against—some of the common neurocognitive challenges associated with cancer and its treatment. Her work has received funding from the National Institutes of Health, the American Cancer Society and the California Breast Cancer Research Program.
Dr. Patel has led and collaborated on multidisciplinary studies aimed at identifying inflammatory biomarkers linked to behavioral symptoms in adults with cancer, assessing functional and cognitive outcomes among long-term cancer survivors and developing interventions to enhance quality of life for children affected by cancer. She has also participated in several federally funded, multi-institutional projects exploring neurocognitive effects in older cancer patients, online support programs for caregivers and the neuroimaging markers associated with treatment-related cognitive changes.
