About Me

Sudarsan Vishnu Kollimuttathuillam, M.D., is a medical oncologist and hematologist at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte, where he provides compassionate, expert care that centers on the unique needs of each patient. Dr. Kollimuttathuillam is particularly focused on advancing cancer care beyond the traditional approaches of the past to incorporate more leading-edge options and access to clinical trials. 

Dr. Kollimuttathuillam earned his medical degree from Government Medical College in Kottayam, India, followed by a residency at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey, and a fellowship at New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York. His research contributions include studies on engraftment syndrome—a serious complication related to stem cell transplants—as well as analyses of blood-related issues in COVID-19 patients. 

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Kollimuttathuillam enjoys spending time outdoors, playing chess and practicing mindfulness.

"Dr. K was thorough and precise in laying out the likely path for treatment of my cancer and answered all of my questions thoughtfully and respectfully. He seemed, however, strongly convinced that I would be doing a radical surgery of my neck, with a long recovery - followed by radiation/chemo and then reconstructive surgery. Over the following weeks i've learned that the likilihood of a surgical procedure is perhaps not nearly as likely as he thought. Also, his description of the treatment overwhelemed me - it was frankly scary to consider this surgery. I wish I had heard a lot more about a) the likelihood of me having a complete cure (very high as I now understand it), b) the reasons a surgery would be ideal, but not necessarily the only way to cure me of this cancer c) the common occurrence that surgery in cases like mine is NOT pursued, but that radiation/chemo is very effective. I would have liked to hear all of this, and also to have seen pictures of my MRI and some guidance as to the nature of my cancer. I got all of this kind of information - including a look at my MRI pictures with a Dr's guidance - from a radiation oncologist who I was referred to by Dr. K. I wish Dr. K had shared the perspectives that I received from my meeting with the radiation oncologist."
