Physician
Stacy W. Gray, M.D., A.M., is a physician-researcher at City of Hope® who serves as Director of Clinical and Scientific Strategy and Vice President of System Strategy. She’s also a professor in the Division of Clinical Cancer Genomics, with additional responsibilities in the Department of Population Sciences. Her work at City of Hope in Duarte and Orange County focuses on making cancer care more precise and effective by using the latest advances in genetics and research.
Dr. Gray earned her undergraduate degree from Brown University and received both her master’s degree in public policy and her medical doctorate and from the University of Chicago. She completed her internal medicine residency and hematology-oncology fellowship at University of Chicago Hospitals. During her training, she was awarded the Irving B. Harris Fellowship focused on public policy.
She later pursued a research fellowship at the National Cancer Institute-funded Center of Excellence in Cancer Communication Research at the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg School for Communication. Dr. Gray continued her research training through a second postdoctoral fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, while joining Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. There, she served as a medical oncologist and cancer outcomes researcher in the Division of Population Sciences and the Lowe Center for Thoracic Oncology.
Dr. Gray’s research looks at how genomic testing and therapies are used in cancer care and how to close gaps in prevention, treatment and research — especially in lung cancer. She is dedicated to ensuring all patients have access to precision cancer medicine.
She has held leadership roles with national cancer organizations, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Cancer Research Committee and a National Institutes of Health research consortium. Dr. Gray’s research has been published in many respected medical journals, and she has presented her work at conferences around the world, The National Human Genome Research Institute, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, American Cancer Society, ASCO and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation have funded her research.
