About Me

Sorin Buga, M.D., is a clinical professor in the Department of Supportive Care Medicine at City of Hope®, where he specializes in palliative care — helping patients manage symptoms, pain and quality-of-life concerns during and after cancer treatment. He joined City of Hope in Duarte in 2013 from Moffitt Cancer Center in Florida, where he also taught in the Department of Oncologic Services at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. 

Dr. Buga is board certified in hospice and palliative medicine and represents City of Hope on the National Comprehensive Cancer Network’s Adult Cancer Pain Panel. He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and the International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care. He has published research and frequently speaks at scientific meetings on supportive care and pain management. 

Dr. Buga received his medical degree from the Universitatea de Medicina si Farmacie in Timisoara, Romania. He completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, where he served as chief medical resident. He then trained further in cancer pain and palliative care through a fellowship at the University of South Florida and Moffitt Cancer Center.

Fluent in Romanian, Dr. Buga is known for his kindness, compassion, and expertise. He sees patients by referral to help address pain and other supportive care needs.
