Sonal Khemani, M.D., is dedicated to giving every child the same high-quality, compassionate care she would want for her own family. At City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte, she takes time to get to know her patients and works closely with other specialists to make sure each child receives optimal treatment and support.
Fluent in Spanish and Gujarati, Dr. Khemani has cared for children and families around the world — from primary care clinics in Mexico and Ecuador to a pediatric intensive care unit in India. She also serves on the critical care and immigrant health committees for the American Academy of Pediatrics, helping improve care for children from all backgrounds.
Dr. Khemani earned her medical degree from Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, where she received the Arthur Gold Humanism Award for compassionate care. She completed her pediatrics residency at Children’s Hospital and Research Center in Oakland and fellowships in pediatric critical care at the University of Chicago and UCLA.
Since joining City of Hope in 2013, Dr. Khemani has served as co-director of pediatric critical care, where she helped strengthen young patient safety across hospital units. She has also practiced as an attending physician at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Huntington Hospital, Miller Children’s Hospital and Fountain Valley Regional Hospital.
Outside of work, Dr. Khemani enjoys spending time with her family, watching baking shows and gardening.
