As a medical oncologist and hematologist-oncologist at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) in Philadelphia, Dr. Shayma Master Kazmi individualizes each patient’s treatment plan to fit their specific needs. Dr. Kazmi focuses on the treatment of thoracic malignancies such as lung cancer and head and neck cancers and also extensively treats breast cancer.

Dr. Kazmi earned a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy with high honors at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. She finished her medical training at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, in New Brunswick. She worked as a pharmacist throughout her medical training. Dr. Kazmi completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ)-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. She also worked as a hospitalist at the University Center at Princeton and St. Peters University Hospital. Dr. Kazmi volunteered as a faculty member at a local charity clinic for the homeless during this time.

She embarked on an oncology/hematology fellowship at Cancer Institute of New Jersey and was elected to be Chief Fellow. After completing her training, she opted to pursue cancer care at Hope Community Cancer Center in Southern New Jersey. She joined CTCA® in 2009 in pursuit of a holistic approach to cancer treatment.

Dr. Kazmi is board certified in hematology, medical oncology and internal medicine. She is also a registered pharmacist. She is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, Association of Indian Professionals and the Medical Society of New Jersey. Throughout her career, Dr. Kazmi has conducted numerous cancer research studies and given many lectures on topics such as genomic testing, immunotherapy and integrative cancer treatments. She has been interviewed on multiple TV news channels and has written articles for a variety of magazines that have sought her opinion on cancer-related topics. She has worked with Stand Up to Cancer to create a public service announcement on cancer questions.

When asked why she chose to join CTCA, Dr. Kazmi explains, “I was looking for a place that not only wanted to administer conventional medicine, such as chemotherapy, but also wanted to treat the entire person, incorporating a variety of therapeutic modalities. This total care model really sets CTCA apart from other cancer hospitals.”

Dr. Kazmi describes the CTCA care model as one in which the patient is the team leader, gently guided by herself and other medical team members. “I provide information regarding their disease and treatment options, and offer my expert recommendation," she says. "It is about maintaining open dialogue with patients.” She is committed to treating her patients with empathy and compassion while educating them and their caregivers on their disease and options for treatment.

When not working, she enjoys time with her family, including  her three children. She speaks Gujarati and Hindi fluently.
