Board-certified radiation oncologist Sean S. Szeja, MD, MS, serves patients with a wide range of cancer types at City of Hope® Upland, bringing expertise in advanced radiation therapy techniques.
Originally from Florida, Dr. Szeja moved to Southern California to attend Caltech, where he double-majored in physics and economics while conducting research at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, before completing a master’s degree in mathematics at the University of Chicago. After earning his medical degree at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Dr. Szeja took on an internship at the University of Nevada in Reno, then completed his residency in radiation oncology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, which included rotations at MD Anderson Cancer Center and Houston Methodist Hospitals. During his final year, he served as chief resident and received the Roentgen Resident Research Award from the Radiological Society of North America.
Dr. Szeja has co-authored numerous studies on lymphoma and cancers of the breast, lung and colon. His research on the benefits of radiation therapy in older patients with triple-negative breast cancer was recognized by the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s Breast Cancer Symposium.
