Radiation Oncologist
Sean Maroongroge, MD, MBA, is a board-certified radiation oncologist and assistant clinical professor at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte. He plays an active role throughout every phase of patient care, from diagnosis and treatment to recovery and long-term follow-up.
Dr. Maroongroge specializes in treating cancers affecting the head and neck, skin, prostate, and breasts. He also has a growing interest in exploring the use of ultra-low dose radiation for non-cancerous conditions such as osteoarthritis. He takes pride in collaborating closely with patients to develop care plans tailored to their specific needs. In his practice, Dr. Maroongroge advocates for precision-based radiation therapy techniques including stereotactic body radiation therapy, image-guided radiation therapy, volumetric modulated arc therapy and brachytherap.
Dr. Maroongroge earned both his medical degree and a master’s in business administration from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. He went on to complete his internship at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Ann Arbor in Michigan and a residency in radiation oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, where he received recognition for his compassionate and patient-centered approach to care. His academic work includes multiple peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations in radiation oncology, while he also draws on his business education to lead initiatives that expand access to care and enhance the use of technology in delivering high-quality, consistent treatment.
A lifelong Southern Californian who grew up just minutes from City of Hope’s Duarte campus, Dr. Maroongroge feels privileged to serve his local community.
