Radiation Oncology, State University of New York, Syracuse, NY
With more than three decades of experience, Radiation Oncologist Scott E. Tropper, M.D., specializes in using the most advanced forms of radiation therapy to treat a variety of cancer types at City of Hope® Cancer Center Arizona.
Dr. Tropper has advanced the care and treatment of prostate cancer, with expertise in the two most advanced forms of radiation therapy: intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT). He has led hands-on clinical symposiums and taught and trained physicians in advanced forms of prostate brachytherapy. He has also integrated MRI planning into his practice for prostate cancer to improve the accuracy of radiation planning and delivery. In addition, he helped pioneer a technique known as simultaneous integrated boost (SIB), which safely delivers a higher dose of radiation directly to prostate tumors. He also has broad experience treating skin and breast cancers using electronic and conventional high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy techniques.
He was drawn to medicine after a close friend passed away from leukemia while he was in medical school.
“I’ve always wanted to work in oncology after that experience. I love oncology and helping patients with cancer, whether it's to cure disease or relieve pain, and City of Hope is one of the premier cancer research and treatment organizations in the world.”
Dr. Tropper received his medical degree from the State University of New York in Brooklyn, New York, after being accepted directly out of high school into a highly competitive and well-respected seven-year accelerated biomedical program. He then completed his residency in radiation oncology at the State University of New York in Syracuse, New York, and his internship at Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane, Washington.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Tropper enjoys spending time with his two children, mountain climbing and hiking with his son, and watching horror films and painting with his daughter. He also enjoys hot yoga, cooking and reading mystery novels.
In addition to English, he speaks some Spanish and Hebrew.
