For Sara H. Kim, M.D., becoming a doctor was more than a career choice — it was a calling inspired by her father, who also worked as a radiation oncologist. Today, she brings more than 20 years of experience caring for people with cancer in the local community, offering patients thoughtful, expert care with kindness and compassion. She believes in listening closely, explaining clearly and empowering patients in health care decisions.
Dr. Kim earned her medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham. She completed an internal medicine internship at West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Medical Center, followed by a residency in radiation oncology at the University of Southern California.
Her clinical expertise includes a wide range of advanced radiation therapies, including 3D conformal treatment planning, intensity-modulated radiation therapy, volumetric-modulated arc therapy, image-guided radiotherapy, brachytherapy and stereotactic radiosurgery for metastatic brain and spine tumors. She is also experienced with the Varian TrueBeam system.
Prior to joining City of Hope®, Dr. Kim served as medical director of radiation oncology at Adventist Health Glendale, where she was honored with the Physician Hero of the Year Award, chosen by patients. She has been named one of Pasadena Magazine’s “Top Doctors” for 13 years in a row and is a member and former co-president of the Korean-American Society of Therapeutic Radiation Oncology.
