Dr. Said Elshihabi joined City of Hope in Atlanta, Georgia, in November 2018 as a Neurosurgeon. Dr. Elshihabi provides minimally invasive surgical and radio-surgical management of primary and metastatic brain and spinal tumors. He is board certified in neurological surgery by the American Board of Neurological Surgery.
Dr. Elshihabi works closely with patients who have brain or spinal cancer, as well as cancer that has spread to the brain or spine from other areas of the body. He is passionate about incorporating the latest advances in the field of neurosurgery to offer patients less-invasive surgical options that will facilitate a speedy recovery and help reduce risk.
“I want my patients to have peace of mind knowing that I am their partner on this cancer journey,” says Dr. Elshihabi. “I know first-hand how a cancer diagnosis can affect both the patient and his or her support network because my father also faced a cancer diagnosis. My goal is to make my patients feel comfortable, improve their quality of life and keep them on-track for the most ideal recovery.”
Dr. Elshihabi completed a bachelor’s degree in biology and biochemistry from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. He earned a medical degree from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio, Texas. He completed an internship in general surgery from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas, and went on to complete a neurosurgical residency at the same university.
Prior to his position at City of Hope, Dr. Elshihabi served as a neurosurgeon in private practice. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. Dr. Elshihabi strongly believes in attending continuing education courses to stay current on the latest techniques and technologies in the practice of neurosurgery.
Outside of City of Hope, Dr. Elshihabi enjoys spending time with his supportive wife and two sons. He seeks to spend every additional, free second enjoying life’s “little moments” with them. Dr. Elshihabi also enjoys cooking, tennis and basketball.
