Dr. Ronald Bauer joined City of Hope in May 2022. As a Breast Surgeon at City of Hope Phoenix, Dr. Bauer evaluates and treats patients with all types and stages of breast cancer. He has amassed extensive experience as an oncological surgeon in various health care settings since 1992, including 11 years running his own breast surgical oncology practice. He works with a multidisciplinary team to develop a personalized treatment plan for each of his patients.
“My main goal is to provide innovative treatment for my patients that is convenient for them to access,” says Dr. Bauer. “City of Hope allows me to do just that with our patient-centered model of care.”
While Dr. Bauer’s interest in science and biology began in high school, his experience volunteering at a local hospital in college is what ultimately led him to medicine. His strong desire to help others led to his decision to focus his career in surgical oncology. The specialty “allows me to be very involved with my patient’s care plan from head to toe,” Dr. Bauer says.
Dr. Bauer earned a medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland, then completed his residency in general surgery at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia. He went on to complete a surgical oncology research fellowship at University of California Los Angeles in Los Angeles, California, and a surgical oncology fellowship at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, New York.
Outside of City of Hope, Dr. Bauer enjoys spending time with his wife, their two adult children and their two chihuahuas. He also enjoys reading and is interested in old cars.
- Patient ratings
- Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
