Robert R. Jenq, M.D., is the director of the Microbiome Program and a clinical professor in the Department of Hematology and Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte. Dr. Jenq has more than 20 years’ experience in genomics, bone marrow and stem cell transplantation and conducting research that translates scientific advancements into real-world treatments for cancer patients.
In his clinical practice, Dr. Jenq focuses on leukemia, lymphoma and other blood and bone marrow cancers, working closely with patients, their loved ones and their care teams to create treatment plans that are safe, effective and tailored to each person’s unique needs.
Dr. Jenq received his medical degree from Oregon Health and Sciences University in Portland, then completed an internal medicine residency at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. He went on to complete a clinical and research fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Before joining City of Hope, he was deputy chair of the Department of Genomic Medicine at MD Anderson’s Acute Cancer Care Center in Houston, Texas.
As a researcher, Dr. Jenq has led and participated in numerous studies on blood and bone marrow transplantation and developed novel medical technologies. His work has explored important topics such as the role of the gut microbiome in graft-versus-host disease and neutropenic fever in patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplants. He is currently engaged in collaborative research projects across the U.S., Canada, Germany and Japan.
