Rifat Mannan, MD, is a pathologist, assistant professor of pathology and the director of the Oncologic Surgical Pathology Fellowship program at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte. Dr. Mannan has a wide-ranging international background and extensive experience in the field of pathology, having earned numerous distinctions while practicing in India, Kuwait and the United States. His focus is gastrointestinal and liver pathology and he has a particular interest in developing new digital and computational pathology tools.
Originally from northeastern India, Dr. Mannan received his medical training at Assam Medical College and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. After years of practice in India and Kuwait, he continued his training in the United States, with a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City and a fellowship in gastrointestinal and liver pathology at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
Prior to joining City of Hope, Dr. Mannan served on the faculty at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, where he directed both the pathology residency and the selective pathology fellowship programs at Pennsylvania Hospital. Passionate about education, Dr. Mannan co-created pathCast, an online initiative designed to make high-quality pathology training more accessible to learners worldwide.
