Ravindra Kumar Guruswamy, MD, MPH, serves as an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Medicine at City of Hope® and a hospitalist providing urgent and emergent care for patients during some of the most difficult and uncertain moments of their lives.
“For a hospitalist, every day brings something new,” says Dr. Guruswamy. “The challenge of managing complex cases and my passion for understanding hematologic cancers inspired me to join City of Hope’s hematology hospitalist program.”
Dr. Guruswamy integrates his clinical expertise with a strong dedication to public health and disease prevention. He earned his medical degree from Madras Medical College in India—one of Asia’s largest and oldest medical schools—and went on to complete a master’s degree in public health at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb County, focusing on health promotion and medical informatics.
After his internship and residency at the State University of New York/Downstate Health Science Center in Brooklyn, Dr. Guruswamy pursued a research fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. Over his 20-year career, Dr. Guruswamy has led multiple public health initiatives centered on obesity prevention, the role that reactive oxygen species play in inflammation and the epidemiology of childhood leukemia in India.
