About Me

Dr. Raed Rahman, Interventional Pain Medicine Physician, knows how debilitating pain can be. "Sometimes pain can be the last thought on your mind before you go to bed, or the first thought you have upon awakening in the morning," he says. "Pain can control your life. Instead of pain controlling you, it’s time for you to control your pain."

Dr. Rahman’s approach to treating cancer patients utilizes a multidisciplinary-based, integrative team method. He says, "Every patient is unique. I’m committed to treating the whole person and restoring hope, not just treating a symptom."

"Every person is different and their personal history of pain plays a role in their management of it," he explains. "It is important for me to help patients understand the cause of their pain and what options are available to help them."

In July 2011, Dr. Rahman joined City of Hope Chicago. He says from the get-go, he’s been impressed with the patient-centered care at City of Hope. Dr. Rahman adds, "All of the staff members treat patients with great respect, kindness and professionalism. The Mother Standard® of care at City of Hope inspires us to provide compassionate care and make strides to improve patients’ quality of life."

"I try to be a doctor who is friendly and personable," says Dr. Rahman of his approach to patient care. "Also, if it’s OK with patients, I like to involve their close family and friends in appointments."

Dr. Rahman adds, "Nowadays patients utilize the Internet, television and other resources to gather information on a particular health issue to be better informed. I encourage patients to seek out information as much as they like, and I will do my best to filter out what’s fact and what’s myth."

After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in biology at Saint Xavier University in Chicago, Dr. Rahman earned an osteopathic medical degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University. He then completed an internal medicine internship in addition to an anesthesiology residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. He completed an interventional pain medicine fellowship at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Dr. Rahman has served as a clinical research investigator for pain management and anesthesiology research studies conducted at the University of Chicago Medical Center and Cook County Hospital. He has also presented on anesthesiology and pain management topics at local, regional and national clinical conferences.

Dr. Rahman is board certified in anesthesiology, pain medicine, and hospice and palliative medicine, enabling him to manage patients with acute, chronic or cancer pain. He performs the following state-of-the-art interventional pain medicine procedures: peripheral and spinal cord nerve stimulators; kyphoplasty; nerve blocks of somatic, sympathetic and visceral cancer pain syndromes; and implanted infusion devices (pain pumps).

Patient ratings
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
