Radowan Elnair, MD, FACP, is a Hematologist, and Bone Marrow Transplant Specialist at City of Hope® Cancer Center Phoenix. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of blood cancers, including acute leukemia, graft-versus-host disease, stem cell transplant and chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy.
Dr. Elnair says he was drawn to a career in medicine because it offers the chance to help cancer patients on their journey, while also researching the latest clinical advances.
He adds: “City of Hope provides the opportunity to serve a diverse patient population, and to offer them leading-edge treatment options that ensure the best outcomes, and to participate in advancing the field through research and clinical trials.”
Dr. Elnair received his medical degree from the University of Khartoum, Sudan. He then completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, followed by fellowships in hematology/oncology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska, and bone marrow transplant at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota.
Prior to joining City of Hope, Dr. Elnair worked at Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence, Rhode Island, the state’s only blood and marrow transplant program. He served as associate director of the leukemia, blood and marrow transplant program. As director of the stem cell lab, he spearheaded expansion of the program and treated the first patients in the state with commercial chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy products (namely Yescarta® and Carvykti®), in addition to expanding the immunotherapy program.
In his free time, Dr. Elnair enjoys hiking, playing and watching soccer.
