A renowned expert in his field, Ping H. Wang, M.D., brings nearly 30 years of experience in treating and studying diabetes to his role as chair of the Department of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte. As the organization expands across Southern California, Dr. Wang has helped lead efforts to strengthen and grow the institution’s diabetes care and research programs, with the ultimate goal of curing all types of diabetes, including type 1.
Dr. Wang earned his medical degree from Kaohsiung Medical College in Taiwan, followed by advanced training in epidemiology at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he also completed fellowships in endocrinology and metabolism.
In 1994, he joined the University of California, Irvine, where he became the founding director of its diabetes center and led the Division of Endocrinology for over 10 years. Throughout his career, Dr. Wang has worked to advance care for people living with diabetes through both clinical work and scientific discovery.
“Diabetes is one of the biggest health challenges of our time,” says Dr. Wang. “It affects more than 400 million people around the world, and the numbers are still growing. We need to find a cure.”
Dr. Wang, who speaks both English and Mandarin, has earned numerous “top doctor” awards in recognition of his expertise and compassionate care.
