About Me

Highly regarded by his patients and with more than 40 years’ experience in his field, Peter Curtin, MD, is a hematologist-oncologist with a focus on leukemia at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte. A two-time “Top Doctor” honoree, Dr. Curtin views City of Hope as an ideal environment to continue his life’s work.

“I wanted to join a team that delivers both groundbreaking therapies and deeply compassionate, comprehensive cancer care to the people of Southern California,” he says.

After completing his undergraduate studies at Harvard University, Dr. Curtin earned his medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical College in Syracuse, New York. He completed his training at North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill and the University of California, San Francisco. Before coming to City of Hope, he served for 13 years as clinical director of the Blood & Marrow Transplantation Division at the University of California, San Diego.

Dr. Curtin credits his father, an orthopedic surgeon, with inspiring his career in medicine: “He loved being in the clinic and operating room, teaching trainees, and, most of all, helping patients heal. I knew early on that I wanted to do the same.”

His research focuses on advancing therapies and improving outcomes for acute leukemia and myelodysplastic syndromes.

Patient reviews
The patient ratings and comments on this page are obtained from an external Press Ganey® outpatient survey provided to all eligible City of Hope patients within one to two weeks of their treatment occurrence. Raw data from the answers to the survey questions about our physicians are calculated by Press Ganey into a one- to five- star rating. In the spirit of transparency, all patient comments are posted as written by the patient, whether they are positive or negative. We only exclude comments if they are deemed to be slanderous or libelous, contain profanity or vulgar language, or do not relate to the patient's experience with the doctor involved. As a result, the comments are the views and opinions of the patients surveyed and are not endorsed by, and may not necessarily reflect the opinion of, City of Hope.
