M.D., Ph.D.
Hematologist
Pamela Becker, M.D., Ph.D., is a physician and researcher who specializes in diseases of the blood and immune system, including acute myeloid leukemia, multiple myeloma and bone marrow failure. With more than 35 years of experience in her field, she works at the intersection of science and patient care, helping bring discoveries from the lab into the clinical setting, helping people with blood cancers receive more targeted, more effective care than ever.
As a hematologist, Dr. Becker treats every patient with the same care and respect she would give her own family. In the research lab, her work focuses on understanding why some blood cancers do not respond to treatment, exploring gene therapy for rare bone marrow conditions like Fanconi anemia and developing more precision medicine options for patients. Her work has earned her honors including the Visionary Research Champion Award from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the Leadership in Science Award from the Aplastic Anemia & MDS International Foundation.
Dr. Becker earned both her medical degree and Ph.D. in cell and developmental biology through a joint program between Harvard Medical School and MIT, both in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She trained in internal medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston and completed advanced hematology research at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Prior to joining City of Hope in 2022, Dr. Becker held leadership roles at the University of California, Irvine, the University of Washington and the University of Massachusetts.
Outside of work, Dr. Becker enjoys music, ballet, swimming, gardening and playing the violin.
