- About Me
A native of Nigeria, Nnamdi Gwacham, DO, MS, joined City of Hope® Phoenix in November 2023 as a Gynecologic Oncologist, primarily serving patients at City of Hope Cancer Care Tatum Ridge. He specializes in the care of women with cervical, ovarian, vulvar and uterine cancers as well as rare gynecologic malignancies. His experience includes complex surgical procedures for benign gynecologic conditions, and he is trained to perform minimally invasive robotic surgeries and radical cytoreductive surgeries.
A member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Society of Gynecologic Oncology and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Dr. Gwacham is committed to making his patients feel empowered to make informed decisions about their treatment plans, whether he’s explaining options for minimally invasive robotic surgeries or exploring feasible clinical trials offering the leading-edge, innovative treatments. He was first inspired to pursue a career in medicine after surgeons repaired a major injury he sustained while playing wide receiver for Utah State University’s football team.
Having been raised by women, Dr. Gwacham is gratified to support women during their journeys with cancer.
“It’s a privilege to be able to provide care for women during their time of greatest need,” he says. “I know firsthand the difference a surgeon can make in someone’s life, so it’s exciting to have the opportunity to pay it forward every day through my work.”
After earning his medical degree from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia, Dr. Gwacham completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey. He then served as a Gruber Visiting Fellow in gynecologic oncology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio, and before joining City of Hope, he completed a gynecologic oncology fellowship at AdventHealth Orlando Cancer Institute in Florida.
Dr. Gwacham has conducted extensive research into a range of topics related to gynecologic cancers, including techniques for robotic surgery and protocols for surgery and chemotherapy designed to preserve fertility. He has co-authored several book chapters and peer-reviewed studies, two of them in Gynecologic Oncology, a leading journal in the field.
Outside work, Dr. Gwacham loves spending time with his siblings, traveling, enjoying the outdoors and staying physically active.
- Patient ratings
- Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
