About Me

Nerses Simon Tchekmedyian, M.D., F.A.C.P., has personally cared for over 15,000 patients throughout his 40-plus-year medical career and has produced research that improved both the treatment and the well-being of patients who have cancer. His philosophy is to do anything and everything to care for patients and to always follow up and follow through. He considers his most significant professional recognitions to be the warmth, trust and gratitude of his patients.

Dr. Tchekmedyian's scientific achievements include the first comprehensive publication on the subject of quality of life in oncology, the discovery of the appetite-enhancing effects of the medication megestrol acetate and a first-in-human clinical study of the CTLA4 antibody, which launched the era of immunotherapy in oncology. He is an active participant in the Early Therapeutics Research Team at City of Hope.

He earned his degree from the University of Medicine in Montevideo, Uruguay, and completed internal medicine residency and chief residency at the Brooklyn Hospital in New York, as well as a fellowship in oncology and hematology at the University of Maryland Cancer Center in Baltimore.

Patient reviews
The patient ratings and comments on this page are obtained from an external Press Ganey® outpatient survey provided to all eligible City of Hope patients within one to two weeks of their treatment occurrence. Raw data from the answers to the survey questions about our physicians are calculated by Press Ganey into a one- to five- star rating. In the spirit of transparency, all patient comments are posted as written by the patient, whether they are positive or negative. We only exclude comments if they are deemed to be slanderous or libelous, contain profanity or vulgar language, or do not relate to the patient's experience with the doctor involved. As a result, the comments are the views and opinions of the patients surveyed and are not endorsed by, and may not necessarily reflect the opinion of, City of Hope.
