Nathan R. Jones, MD, is an associate professor and palliative care physician at City of Hope® Cancer Center Atlanta. Dr. Jones supports patients with a wide range of cancer types, in particular those with advanced cancer and those whose disease has not responded to treatment, with the goal of helping them manage the symptoms, side effects and pain related to their cancer or its treatments.
“In my role, I spend quality time with patients who are in need of extra support and care,” says Dr. Jones. “This includes assisting with symptom management and helping clarify their goals of care, so that patients receive treatment that is line with their wishes.”
In both the clinic and hospital, Dr. Jones brings a compassionate, person-centered approach to his work with patients who have cancer. This includes helping manage complex symptoms and acute pain that may be caused by treatments like chemotherapy and radiation therapy, as well as supporting patients and their loved ones during hospice care conversations related to issues such as a patient’s care goals and advanced directives.
Dr. Jones earned his medical degree at the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in St. Martin and Miami. He completed his residency in family medicine at the Prisma Health/University of South Carolina School of Medicine Seneca Family Medicine Residency program, followed by a fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine at Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center in Marietta, Georgia.
Outside of work, Dr. Jones enjoys cooking, reading, playing with his bulldogs and running – having completed two marathons and six half-marathons to date.
