Natalie Johnson, MD, is a renowned surgical oncologist specializing in providing advanced care for patients with breast cancer, thyroid cancer, parathyroid disease and melanoma. She serves patients at City of Hope® Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center.
Dr. Johnson’s research centers on advancing surgical cancer care, including new methods for tumor localization, image-guided and navigated surgery, margin assessment and targeted regional treatments delivered during surgery. She also studies cancer disparities and the relationship between environmental exposures and cancer risk. Dr. Johnson is a sought-after speaker and has authored and presented dozens of peer-reviewed scientific papers.
In the clinic, Dr. Johnson values the long-term relationships she builds with patients and emphasizes shared decision-making, helping individuals weigh treatment options in the context of their goals, values, quality of life and family and social considerations.
Dr. Johnson earned her medical degree from Albany Medical College in New York state, then returned to Southern California for her general surgery residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. She pursued her residency and a fellowship in surgical oncology and breast surgical oncology at City of Hope, after which she joined our Orange County location.
Dr. Johnson has also completed specialized training in oncoplastic surgical techniques and prioritizes cosmetic outcomes that help patients heal both physically and emotionally. She has volunteered at free medical clinics and in health education programs to improve access to care in both the United States and abroad, reflecting her dedication to global health and health equity.
