Hematologist-Oncologist
Murali Janakiram, M.D., M.S., is a hematologist-oncologist at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte, where he works closely with patients diagnosed with multiple myeloma and other blood disorders. Dr. Janakiram’s philosophy is founded in developing personalized treatment plans that take medical and social factors into account, thereby ensuring that patients receive whole-person care. In addition to supporting his patients through every step of their cancer journey, Dr. Janakiram is committed to shaping the next generation of therapies through innovative research.
Particularly devoted to advancing care for patients with multiple myeloma, Dr. Janakiram is focused on integrating novel treatments such as minimal residual disease-guided, limited-duration therapies and leading-edge immunotherapies like bispecific antibodies and CAR T-cell therapy into his approach to care. As a clinical investigator with more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, reviews and book chapters, he has developed risk-adapted strategies for treating myeloma and is actively exploring how best to sequence immunotherapies and prevent disease recurrence after treatment.
Dr. Janakiram earned his medical degree at Madras Medical College in India and a master’s degree in clinical research at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City, where he later completed his fellowship in hematology-oncology. His internship and residency took place at Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio.
