M.D.
Colorectal Surgeon
“I joined City of Hope because I deeply connect with its commitment to delivering cutting-edge cancer treatment with empathy and heart.”
For Mark Hanna, M.D., assistant professor of colorectal surgery at City of Hope®® Cancer Center Duarte, trust is at the core of his work. He was drawn to surgery because of the unique and powerful bond formed with patients. “There’s something profound about earning a patient’s trust and using your hands to help them heal—that’s a privilege I don’t take lightly,” he says.
Dr. Hanna specializes in minimally invasive and robotic techniques for colorectal cancer and is dedicated to providing advanced surgical options that help patients recover more quickly, experience less pain and spend less time in the hospital.
He earned his medical degree from the American University of Beirut Medical School, completed an internship at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore and pursued his residency at the University of California, Irvine. He later completed a prestigious colon and rectal surgery fellowship through a combined program at New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell and Columbia University Medical Centers, as well as Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, all in New York City.
