- About Me
Dr. Mahmoud Mahafzah, an expert in diagnosing and treating respiratory cancers and diseases, joined City of Hope Phoenix in February 2019. He is determined to find the right treatment for each one of his patients with lung cancer or other cancers affecting the lungs. He also provides care to patients with pulmonary disorders such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), interstitial lung disease, cystic fibrosis, pneumonia and pulmonary hypertension, among others.
At City of Hope, Dr. Mahafzah works with each patient to develop an integrative and personalized treatment plan. He educates his patients and their family members, taking as much time as needed, so that they understand their treatment options. Dr. Mahafzah wants them to feel comfortable asking questions and sharing their concerns, believing that this empowers his patients to take an active role in the treatment decision-making process.
“The patient-centered approach to care is what drew me to City of Hope,” Dr. Mahafzah says. “Working collaboratively with other doctors and supportive care clinicians provides seamless, whole-person care for our patients.”
Dr. Mahafzah earned his medical degree from the Jordan University of Science and Technology in Irbid, Jordan. He completed an internal medicine residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, then completed a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the same hospital.
Board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease and critical care medicine, Dr. Mahafzah has practiced in a variety of health care settings since 2014. He’s an active member of several professional organizations, including the Society of Critical Care Medicine and American Medical Association.
Outside of City of Hope, Dr. Mahafzah enjoys spending time with his friends and family, especially his wife, son and daughter. He also likes hiking, traveling, playing soccer and training jiu-jitsu with his son.
- Patient ratings
- Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey® survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
