About Me

LiYing Cai, MD, PhD, is a cardiologist specializing in the diagnosis and management of heart disease. Dr. Cai’s decision to join City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte was inspired by her desire to focus on the growing field of cardio-oncology, a field that studies how cancer treatments can impact heart function and rhythm.

Since certain chemotherapy drugs and radiation therapies can affect the heart, Dr. Cai is dedicated to understanding and minimizing these risks. At City of Hope, she applies the latest research and technology to closely monitor and manage cardiac complications in patients undergoing cancer treatment, ensuring their heart health remains a top priority throughout care.

Dr. Cai earned her medical degree from Beijing Medical University in China and her doctorate from Indiana University School of Medicine. She went on to complete a cardiology fellowship at the University of Chicago.

Patient reviews
The patient ratings and comments on this page are obtained from an external Press Ganey® outpatient survey provided to all eligible City of Hope patients within one to two weeks of their treatment occurrence. Raw data from the answers to the survey questions about our physicians are calculated by Press Ganey into a one- to five- star rating. In the spirit of transparency, all patient comments are posted as written by the patient, whether they are positive or negative. We only exclude comments if they are deemed to be slanderous or libelous, contain profanity or vulgar language, or do not relate to the patient's experience with the doctor involved. As a result, the comments are the views and opinions of the patients surveyed and are not endorsed by, and may not necessarily reflect the opinion of, City of Hope.

"It was an honor to meet Dr. Cai. I saw her for a consultation (I am a breast cancer patient at COH) and had questions based on a previous suspected TIA and associated heart testing. She was so generous with her time and explanation of my particular circumstances. It am so grateful to have the opportunity to meet with experts such as Dr. Cai even though they are not directly connected with my current case. I feel confident that my overall health is in good hands with COH."
