Kelly Mahuron, M.D., is a surgical oncologist and assistant clinical professor at City of Hope® in Duarte, California. She treats a variety of cancers, including skin cancer and melanoma, and is committed to bringing novel treatments like T cell therapies from the laboratory into her clinical practice.
Along with caring for patients, Dr. Mahuron is a dedicated researcher. Her work centers on cellular therapy and immuno-oncology — using the body’s own immune system to fight cancer. She studies how immune cells called tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes can help target cancer while working to develop tools that may help predict which therapies will work best for each patient.
Dr. Mahuron earned her medical degree at the University of California, San Diego, and completed her general surgery residency at the University of California, San Francisco. She continued specialized training with a fellowship in complex surgical oncology at City of Hope. Dr. Mahuron has published over 20 peer-reviewed publications, including first-author manuscripts in the Journal of Experimental Medicine, Cancer Research and JAMA Surgery.
