Medical Oncologist and Hematologist
Karla Olmedo, MD, is an emerging leader in the fields of medical oncology and hematology and an assistant clinical professor of medical oncology and therapeutics research at at City of Hope Long Beach Elm and Long Beach Worsham.
A co-author of clinical research studies and review articles featured in publications such as the Journal of Emergency Medicine, Blood and Rutgers University Press, Dr. Olmedo is passionate about advancing the science of immunology and exploring the potential of cellular therapies. She is also deeply committed to health equity and, as a Spanish-speaking physician, is especially dedicated to educating and caring for Latino patients.
A Southern California native, Dr. Olmedo earned her bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the University of California, Riverside, then went on to receive her medical degree from Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara School of Medicine in Mexico. She then completed an internal medicine residency at Riverside Community Hospital in California and a hematology/oncology fellowship at the University of California, Irvine.
With scholarly work that spans multiple topics in the fields of blood cancers and patient care, Dr. Olmedo has delivered presentations on cancer treatment, blood transfusion practices and blood utilization at national meetings of the American College of Physicians and the Society of Hospital Medicine.
