About Me

Kari Kakazu, MD, is a Hematopathologist at City of Hope® Cancer Center Phoenix, where she works closely with patients and their cancer care teams to ensure that each patient receives accurate, timely information regarding both new diagnoses and ongoing laboratory tests. Dr. Kakazu is double board-certified in pathology and hematopathology.

Prior to taking on her current role at City of Hope, Dr. Kakazu served as a pathologist in both California and eastern Washington state. She earned her medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, where she also received the institute’s Louisiana Pathology Society Award. She went on to complete the Hawaii Residency Programs in Honolulu, followed by fellowships in surgical pathology and hematopathology, both at Hartford HealthCare in Connecticut.

A member of the American Society of Hematology, the American Society for Hematopathology and the College of American Pathologists, Dr. Kakazu has also co-authored multiple peer-reviewed articles.
