Kalust Ucar, M.D., is a medical oncologist and hematologist and an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Medical Oncology and Therapeutics Research at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte. Dr. Ucar works closely with patients diagnosed with a wide range of cancer types to ensure that they have access to the innovative treatment options that can help manage their condition and their quality of life.
After earning his medical degree at Istanbul University in Turkey, Dr. Ucar took on a research role at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in New York. He completed his internship, followed by a residency and fellowship in endocrinology, at the State University of New York. A further fellowship in oncology and hematology at the University of California, Los Angeles, was followed by a faculty position at the same institution. Dr. Ucar’s collaborative and equity-focused approach to care was recognized in 2007 with the Values in Action award from Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health Center in California.
Dr. Ucar studied medicine at Istanbul University in Turkey. Moving to the U.S., he performed research at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in New York and then joined SUNY as an intern, resident and fellow in endocrinology. Dr. Ucar specialized in oncology and hematology as a fellow at UCLA, where he was nominated for a teaching award and went on to become a faculty member.
Dr. Ucar is fluent in both Armenian and Turkish and is an avid reader, golfer and sailing enthusiast.
