Cardio-oncologist June-Wha Rhee, M.D., believes that good care starts with listening. At City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte, she takes time to understand each patient’s goals, concerns and day-to-day experiences. Her fascination with the heart has led her to focus on preventing or reducing cardiovascular problems that can occur during cancer treatment.
Dr. Rhee earned her bachelor’s degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and her medical degree from Harvard. She completed her internal medicine residency and cardiovascular medicine fellowship at Stanford, where she also served as chief fellow and conducted research using patient-specific stem cells to study heart disease. Her current research, supported by the National Institutes of Health and the American Heart Association, explores how cancer treatments can affect the heart. She also serves on several clinical and research committees, including the American Heart Association’s Cardio-Oncology Committee.
Fluent in Korean, Dr. Rhee enjoys spending time with her family — exploring parks, trying new restaurants and getting together with friends.
