Emergency Medicine - Kaweah Health, Visalia, CA
Joseph Vega, DO, discovered his passion for medicine early in life through a deep curiosity about human anatomy and physiology. Motivated by the extraordinary impact of physicians, he volunteered at a community hospital throughout his undergraduate years — an experience that confirmed his dedication to a lifelong career in medicine. In his current role as a supportive care medicine physician at City of Hope® Cancer Center Duarte, he finds deep fulfillment in supporting patients and families through serious illness and offering them relief from cancer and its symptoms.
Dr. Vega earned his medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California, then completed his residency in emergency medicine at Kaweah Health in Visalia, California. He later pursued fellowship training in palliative medicine, where he refined his expertise in pain and symptom management, patient-centered decision-making and creating personalized treatment plans.
A member of both the Gold Humanism Honor Society and the Sigma Sigma Phi National Honor Society, Dr. Vega is recognized for his patient-focused approach to care. He also serves his community through volunteer work with street medicine teams, community health initiatives and the Flying Samaritans.
