Jonathan R. Young, M.D., is an associate clinical professor in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology at City of Hope®, where he was drawn by the institution’s reputation as a worldwide leader in cancer research and treatment. A lifelong fascination with the human brain inspired his career in radiology, where he combines advanced imaging research with a passion for improving patient care.
Dr. Young’s research focuses on two main areas: identifying imaging biomarkers that can predict how brain and kidney tumors behave and respond to treatment, and developing safer contrast agents for children undergoing MRI scans. He has published dozens of peer-reviewed papers and delivered numerous presentations at national radiology conferences.
A summa cum laude graduate and valedictorian of Union College in Schenectady, New York, Dr. Young earned his medical degree from UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and received the Leo G. Rigler Outstanding Medical Student Award from the UCLA Department of Radiology. He completed his radiology residency and neuroradiology fellowship at UCLA. His research excellence was recognized with the Society of Abdominal Radiology Howard S. Stern Research Award in 2016.
Dr. Young views his work at City of Hope as the ideal combination of scientific discovery and compassionate care, allowing him “to help people on a daily basis.”
